Program Days 2008-2009
Longfellow Stars EDP Academic Centers open on August 27, the first day of school. The program will be open every school day and will end on the final day of school, June 12. Art, game room, and recreational sports will begin on the first day of school and all other enrichment classes will begin the week of September 15.

Program Hours
Program hours are: 3:00-6:00 PM Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and 2:15-6:00 PM Wednesdays.

When there are special schedules, EDP will open at school release time. Students are expected to attend the program until 6:00 pm every day unless parents request early release due to a special need. Request for a special early release should be made by a phone call to the EDP office.

Pick-Ups
Students are not allowed to wait outside for parent pick-ups, parent/guardians must go to their student’s location to sign them out. Students must be picked up by the end of the program, at 6:00 pm, unless they are attending a special school function.

New EDP Office
The EDP Coordinator Office is located in Room 108 on the first floor of the academic building. You can access the EDP Main Office by going to the back of Room 1, which is past the cafeteria. We are hoping that repairs to the new EDP Office, which will be across from the cafeteria in Room 22, will be complete by October. If the Derby Street gates are locked after 6:00 pm, you will need to go to the door next to the Derby Street stairs (near the softball field) and ring the bell.

Registration (NEW!)
Students cannot attend EDP Academic Centers unless they are registered in person by a parent or guardian. In order for students to attend EDP the first week of school, parent/guardians MUST attend registration on the Monday before school begins. Each Academic Center will accept the first 25 students to enroll in that center, all others will be placed on a Wait List. Registration will be conducted in the Longfellow Cafeteria on:

Monday, August 25 5:30 - 7:30 pm
& Friday, August 29 6:00 - 7:30 pm

Required Forms
Please complete and sign the following EDP forms before you bring them to registration:

1. EDP Activity Schedule 2. EDP Application 3. EDP Consent Form 4. EDP Guidelines 5. EDP Initial Fee Payment Form, along with check or cash. You can ask questions about our program at the registration.

Enrichment Classes
Students can add an Enrichment Class to their EDP Activity Schedule after the class begins. A syllabus outlining expectations for each Enrichment Class will be available during registration.

Athletic Teams
Students should NOT sign up for an athletic team until they have tried out and been accepted. Following acceptance, athletes will be given EDP Applications and Athletic forms to take home and return to the Athletic Director and parent/guardians will be invited to an informational meeting.

Activity Schedule Changes
Parents who wish to change their student’s activity schedule must contact the EDP Office. Late enrollees for enrichment classes should contact the Coordinator to inquire about the best time to begin class.

Fees
Fees can be paid by cash, or check to: Longfellow MS EDP. Childcare subsidies are also accepted. At time of registration, the 1st and last month fees must be paid as a deposit. Fees are prorated across the entire year, so that the same amount is due the 1st day of each month. Fee rates are determined by a sliding scale, depending on family size and monthly income. See attached EDP Fee Schedule to calculate your rate. Proof of income is required in order to pay less than full cost.

Snacks
Free, healthful snacks supplied by the USDA will be served to EDP students in the cafeteria during the first 15 minutes of the program. Parents should contact EDP staff about students with special food needs. We encourage parents to donate snacks for special school events.

Program Information
Program information is posted on school bulletin boards, the PTA e-tree, and here on the PTA website. Application forms can be retrieved from the school office between 8:30 am and 3:30 pm or in the EDP Office between 3:15 and 6:00 pm.

LIBRARY

Library News

Thanks to all of the families who've supported this year's Library Book Fair! The week-long sale's profits will go directly back into buying new books for Longfellow's Library.

Ms. Bloomstein will be happy to get off of her feet (and settle down with a good read) over the Spring Break. Thanks to all the student and parent help at the Book Fair!

Research papers are coming up, so remind your students to spend time at the Library NOW so there won't be the usual last minute crunch to locate books, take notes, etc. And AR reading continues: 30-45 minutes per night, 7 days a week!
